Dental implants are one of the most advanced methods to having false teeth and they are used to replace missing teeth. Dental implants feel and look just like natural teeth and that is why patients are opting in for this treatment option. One of the many benefits of this procedure is that other teeth do not need to be altered in the process.
This alternative method uses small titanium posts or titanium implants which are placed into your jawbone where teeth are missing. After the post is placed, your jawbone will bond to it and create a foundation that is very strong. The procedure will take a couple of months to complete as you need to give your jaw time to heal once the posts are in place.
On your first visit, Dr. Barney will begin by placing the implants into your jawbone. A small incision is typically made on the gum and then the post is implanted. Once the post is in place, the incision will be closed with dissolvable stitches or sutures. The procedure is not limited to only one implant per visit and a patient can have multiple posts planted in a visit.
The area around the implant will take anywhere from 3 to 6 months to completely heal. While your jaw is healing, you will be fitted with a temporary crown so that you are able to feel confident and also speak and eat without problems.
Once the area is completely healed, you will return to our office. A base will be applied to the implant so that the permanent crown can be placed. Once the base is applied, an impression will be taken to get the accurate size and measure for your crowns. Once the impression has been sent to the lab and your crowns are ready, you will see Dr. Barney again for him to affix them.
Dental implants are beneficial because they help fill in gaps where teeth have been removed and they also help to preserve the shape of your jawbone. Once the procedure is over, you will be excited to smile again and your teeth will feel and look natural.
